**You’re welcome for the word of the day today. As I was writing this blog and came to the end of it, I still didn’t have a title. As I thought, and prayed about it I really wanted to emphasize the fact that we so often neglect the things that are most important. However neglect didn’t start with the letter “p” so to the thesaurus I went. 😊**
Sometimes, we don’t realize how important something is until we neglect it, until we pass it over.
The Lord has been convicting me, about honoring the sabbath recently. I keep trying to push it off with excuses. There are so many “things” that seem so important, they seem like they must get done, and they must be done immediately !
Today I set out to take a sabbath, and in the first hour of rest & study the Lord spoke so clearly, it was somewhat overwhelming.
“…the Lord our God is HOLY…” Psalms 99:9, through this chapter, and specifically this part of verse 9, the Lord reminded me of a study I did earlier in the month in my First 5 devotion app.
I’ll share a portion of Exodus 20:8-10, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work …”
One of the points this devotion brought up, was how frightening it must have been to the Israelites that they were not only to rest on the 7th day, but also the 7th year. That meant in the physical, with their eyes, it seemed they would have no means of income or provision for their families in that year, they were to give their fields and crops a rest. No planting, no harvesting, should have equaled no income and no food. However, when they honored God in this way, He promised them blessing, He promised them provision!
When we honor God with the sabbath, we are showing Him we trust him, if we cannot trust Him with a day how can He trust us with a blessing?
I won’t tell you what your sabbath needs to look like, you need to seek the Lord and ask Him to guide you! But, you must find a way to take a sabbath if you want to receive the blessing the Lord intends for you to have.
I may come back later, in another blog, and share the things the Lord is showing me when it comes to what the sabbath needs to be.
